This is a vintage Vernon Kilns Winchester 73 / Frontier Days salad plate. Decorated with a scene of cowboy roping a longhorn steerwith the Western landscape in the background. This pattern is hand-painted in what is known as “clobbered” transferware — which means the colors were hand-painted on top of the brown transferred printed design. Vernon Kilns produced the Winchester ’73 pattern in 1950 to coincide with the release of Universal International’s picture of the same name. It was produced until 1953 when the name was changed to Frontier Days, which was produced until 1954.I am listing a full set of this pattern over the next few days. Most pieces have the older “Winchester 73″ hallmark. All hallmarks say “Hand Painted Under Glaze” and “Vernon Kilns – U.S.A.” The art decoration on all pieces is identical, regardless of hallmark. Please specify in your order if you have a particular preference in backstamp (subject to prior sale). In the absence of instruction, I will fill orders first from the Winchester 73 hallmarks until all sold. Note: you are purchasing ONE item set unless you change the quantity to more than one (subject to prior sale). Combined shipping always applies for multiple purchases. If you purchase more than one set, please wait for me to invoice you on additional items so that you are charged the correct actual postage. In the event you pay excess shipping, overage will be refunded immediately to you. Dimensions: 7.5” diameter at top x 0.75” profile depth. Condition: Excellent giftable condition. No crazing or discoloration. Paint intact without erosion. No chips, flakes, breaks, mends, repairs, cracks, hairlines, blemishes, or mentionable boo-boo’s. Don’t feel anything amiss when I run finger around edges. Colored transfers and clobbed overpainting are intact, with good color, no scratches or erosion. Unpacked weight: 10 oz. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views.I gladly accept returns, but please note I do not pay return postage unless there was a significant error in my description.
